Thirty years have passed since a Japanese exchange student in the US state of Louisiana was fatally shot.
On October 17, 1992, 16-year-old Yoshihiro Hattori was on his way to Halloween party. He went to the wrong house, where he was shot by the owner who took him for an intruder.
The boy’s parents held a memorial gathering for their son in Nagoya on Sunday, with some 100 people attending.
Yoshihiro’s parents started a campaign for US gun control soon after their son’s death. They presented a petition with 1.8 million signatures to President Bill Clinton in 1993.
The parents are now retiring from the campaign. They hope people will continue their drive to help change the world.
